Updates from Debra

Where does the time go? It is hard to believe that we are already four months into 2005. Our thanks to each of you for giving us a fantastic 2004 and for getting us off to a record breaking start for 2005.

Growth creates change, so needless to say, change has become our middle name. To keep up with our growth, we have taken a little sabbatical from publishing The Communicator in order to concentrate on developing our internal infrastructure and adding products and services to better serve you. We are hoping to get back to our regular monthly issues starting in June 2005.

These are exciting times and we are looking forward to becoming a valuable source for all of your human resource needs.

We've added another Associate

Anji Siegel, MBA, joined our team on April 11, 2005 as our Office Manager. Anji comes to us with many years of experience as a project and administrative manager for small and large organizations alike. Her background includes designing, implementing and training individuals and organizations in project management techniques, tools and practices in the workplace. Her former positions have been at The Apollo Group, AZ; College for Financial Planning, CO; Project Management Institute, PA; FACES Conferences and Home Study Programs. Her e-mail address is Anji@TGassociates.com.

New Digs for TG & Associates

We were busting out at the seams, so another change was required. As much as we all dread moving, we had to do it. So in addition to stressing over taxes on April 15th, we moved our offices. We still can't decide which was worse. Actually, our phones were only down for a couple hours during the move, but if you tried to reach us during that window and couldn't, we apologize. We are now settled in here and ready for action, so give us a call, for whatever HR support you may need.

Since we didn't move too far, all of our contact information is the same except for our new street address. If you get to Tucson, stop in and see us. We would love to show you around the place.

The new street address is: 6601 E Grant Rd, Suite 102 - Tucson, AZ 85715

EMA Conference Highlights

I have just returned from Dallas where I attended the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Employment Management Association (EMA) 36th Annual Conference and Exposition. Being an involved member of SHRM is how we stay abreast of people trends, recruiting and staffing issues, the latest tools and assessments available or anything devoted to human resource management. I have some interesting highlights I would like to share with you:

  • By 2010 (only 5 years from now), there will be 10 million fewer workers than jobs in the U.S.
  • The Generation X workforce is one-half the size of the about-to-retire Baby Boomers workforce.
  • "We are about to face a demographically driven shortfall in labor that will make the late 1990's seem like a minor irritation." - Anthony Carevale, Former Chairman, National Commission for Employment Policy
  • "If you want to hire the people who have always been the bread and butter of the labor force, you're going to have to hire them away from someone else." David Ellwood, Professor of Political Economy, Harvard University
  • A survey by Hudson Global Resources found that 42% of workers are somewhat to very likely to look for a new job in 2005. They are citing this to be at an epidemic level.
  • By hiring smart you will build a culture of excellence where people want to stay, which attracts more top talent.
  • An "A" level employee (great employee) is 40% more effective than an average employee.

Looking for your next "A" level employee?
At TG & Associates we are prepared to help you hire and retain great employees!

There are many choices for staffing agencies. But there is a major difference when you trust your staffing services to TG & Associates' Customized Staffing Solutions. We are not recruiters and we are not headhunters. We conduct staffing the way you would do it if you had the time and the resources to do it. Our customized services are designed to find top performing candidates and fully evaluate their competencies and their behaviors before we present them to you for interview.

Call Shari toll free at 877-842-7762 to learn more about the solutions we can create for you!

Retention is Critical

You cannot afford to lose even one great employee. And believe me; if he or she is a top performer, your competitor has eyes on them.

Now is the time to be proactive in retaining your top performers.

In one of the most extensive studies of its kind, the Gallup Organization identified five key questions with a direct link to retention:
1. Do I know what is expected of me at work?
2. Do I have the information and equipment to do my work right?
3. Do I have the opportunity to do what I do best everyday?
4. Does my supervisor or someone care about me as a person?
5. At work do my opinions count?

The Gallup Organization cited #4 as the top reason for turnover.

These questions are part of a longer survey called the Q12. The answers to these questions not only give you a clue about retention issues, but they will also tell you how engaged your people are in your business. For more information on this subject, you should read "First Break All the Rules" by Marcus Buckingham. It is a must read.

I strongly recommend you conduct this survey with your entire staff and address the issues immediately.

To learn more about the complete list of 12 questions recommended by the Gallup Organization, read The Engagement Challenge (Q12). Click here for the complete list of questions.

Team Culture Analysis

Your competitive advantage is a competent, stable, well-led team.
Do you have the advantage or is the competition kicking your butt?

The best way to find out if you have what it takes to run circles around your competitor is to diagnose your infrastructure. It's like lifting the hood on your car and making sure that you are running on all cylinders.

The Team Culture Analysis (TCA) combines the DISC personality profiling model with "Role Fit Theory." The combined insights provide a basis for building and developing great teams and maximizing organizational performance. The TCA system has its own questionnaire that develops an "Ideal Team" profile based on your organization's specific goals and objectives. Team members are then profiled and compared to the team goals to assess the "Actual Team" against the "Ideal Team" profile. The extensive report, which includes graphics, and a evaluation of each individual's contribution, helps you, the team leader, identify and address gaps that may impede reaching your goals. Its unique strength is that the system gets to the root cause of team problems in hours rather than months.

Call today to find out how to conduct a Team Culture Analysis (TCA).
Save $300 If you purchase your TCA by May 15, 2005.

"Guerilla Marketing in 30 days"
Jay Conrad Levinson and Al Lautenslager

The Guerilla Marketing series of books has become the #1 best-selling marketing series of all time. This latest book continues the pattern of the previous books and will provide the tools to revitalize your marketing. We had the distinct pleasure to meet with Al Lautenslager recently to hear firsthand about the key points of the book. This book successfully defines marketing in terms of a 30 day schedule of topics that are straightforward and clearly explained. The format includes a summary for each day and an action plan to move forward. These plans give you simple steps for understanding your marketing needs and for finding the solutions that are going to help your customers be successful and as a result make them appreciate what you bring to their table.

Note: Our Recommended Reading list is available online and now has links to Amazon.com to allow you easy access to purchasing them for your own use.
